How to Find a Blog Niche That’s Not Only Profitable, But Also Totally YOU

How to Find a Blog Niche That’s Not Only Profitable, But Also Totally YOU

When it comes to finding a profitable blog niche, most people think they need to find something that’s popular and trendy. But what if you could find a profitable niche that’s totally unique to you? I mean, wouldn’t that be the best of both worlds? You can have a niche that’s not only profitable, but also something you’re passionate about!

Then, how do you find a niche like that? Read on to find out!

First Thing First: What Is a Niche?

A niche is the specific focus and topic of your blog, and it is important that you pick one that you are passionate about and has enough demand to generate regular readers. Some popular blogging niches include parenting, fashion, beauty, food, travel, health & fitness, personal finance, and DIY/home improvement.

However, your niche doesn’t have to be limited to these categories. As long as you create content that meets the needs of your ideal audience and solves their problems, any topic can be a successful blog niche!

Depending on the subject, you will likely develop a unique perspective and expertise in your niche which can generate more traffic and attention. Your followers are seeking expertise on that topic and it’s important to be genuine while still expanding their knowledge base.

Simply put, blog niches are extremely important because they allow you to focus your content, which in turn attract readers who are looking for specific information.

Micro Niche vs. Low Competition Niche

While you’re wandering in the Google Land searching for your profitable niche, you might come across the terms “micro niche” or “low competition niche.” What are they? How are they different from each other? And what should you focus on instead? Well, let me explain it to you!

Profitable Niche Blog 2

What is micro niche?

A micro niche is a very small and specific niche that has low competition. For example, if you want to blog about “vegan recipes for two people”, that would be considered a micro niche, compared to “vegan recipes” in general.

Micro niche blog ideas can be profitable because they are easier to rank for in search engines and there is less competition in terms of content. However, the downside is that there might not be enough demand for your content, which can make it difficult to generate a consistent income from your blog.

What is low competition niche?

A low competition niche is a topic that doesn’t have a lot of bloggers competing for the same keyword phrases. For example, “parenting hacks for working moms” is a low competition niche because there are not many bloggers who focus on this specific topic. Yet the demand is still high because there are many working moms who are looking for this type of content!

So, which one should you choose?

Ideally, you want to find a niche that is both low competition and has high demand. However, if you have to choose one or the other, I would recommend going with a low competition niche. Why?

It’s easier to rank for low competition keywords, which means you can get traffic to your blog without spending a lot of time or money on marketing. And once you start getting traffic, you can then focus on growing your email list and monetizing your blog to generate a consistent income.

Micro Niche Blog Ideas for Beginners

When I started my travel blog back in 2016, it was a very general-ish travel blog talking about everything traveling. I had no focus, no niche, and didn’t really know what I was doing.

Eventually, I realized that if I wanted to stand out in the travel blogging world, I needed to focus on a specific niche. And that’s when I decided to become a solo female student traveler blog. Not solo traveler. Not female traveler. Not even student traveler. But a solo female student traveler blog.

As you can see, I went from a very general travel blog to a much more specific micro niche blog. And that made all the difference. While it’s quite micro niche, it’s still a profitable niche because there are many solo female students who travel and are looking for information on how to do it cheaply, safely, and easily. The keyword ocean was still blue, allowing me to get ranked in Google as fast as possible and get traffic to my blog.

So, if you’re just starting out, I recommend finding a micro niche that you can focus on. It will make it much easier for you to stand out from the rest and be successful with your blog! Some examples include:

  • Vegan recipes for two people (I got that keyword ranked for a brand-new blog, so yeah, why not?)
  • Fashion tips for petite women
  • Affordable beauty tips for women over 40
  • Parenting hacks for work-from-home moms or dads
  • Travel tips for senior citizens

And the list goes on. The key here when it comes to micro niche blog ideas is to be as specific as possible. The more specific you are, the easier it will be to rank in Google and get traffic to your blog!

How Do You Know If a Niche Is Profitable

Identifying a niche with potential to be profitable is a crucial step to launching any successful blogging venture. The most important part of determining if a niche can be profitable is market research. Study the resources available, assess how large the target market is, and identify what products or services could satisfy the specific needs of that market.

Furthermore, it’s essential to gather data about competitors and analyze pricing strategies, marketing tactics, and customer trends in order to gain an understanding of likely success in that niche.

If comprehensive research leads you to believe there is significant potential for profit in that particular niche, it may be worth investing in as long as you have the skills and/or resources necessary to create something unique enough not to get lost in the rest of the competition.

In the following sections, I’ll outline a few key steps to take in order to assess the profitability of a niche.

How to Find a Profitable Niche for Your Blog

Now that we’ve gone over what a micro niche vs. low competition niche is, it’s time to give you some tips on how to find a profitable niche for your blog! Here are my top three tips:

Do Research with Ubersuggest or Keysearch

Five years ago, my first advice could be “focus on your passion” or something similar. But now, with the rise of social media and influencers, it’s become harder to make a living off of writing about just anything.

These days, you need to be more strategic when choosing a niche for your blog. And that’s why I recommend using Ubersuggest or Keysearch to do your research.

Both of these tools are keyword research tools that will help you find low competition keywords that you can rank for easily. They are affordable, compared to SEMRush or Ahrefs, making them perfect alternatives for new bloggers who are on a budget. And when I say low competition, I mean keywords with a high search volume and low SEO difficulty.

To use Ubersuggest, simply enter a seed keyword into the search bar and hit “search.” Then, filter the results by “keywords ideas” and “all time.” This will give you a list of all the related keywords, along with their monthly search volume and SEO difficulty.

You can then use Keysearch to further filter your results by competition. Just enter a keyword into the search bar and hit “search.” Then, they will give you a comprehensive list of all the related keywords, along with their monthly search volume, SEO difficulty, and PPC competition.

Both of these tools are essential for finding profitable micro niches that you can rank for easily and get traffic to your blog. So, take time to learn how it works in each platform, subscribe to their pricing plans if needed, and use them to find your niche!

Check out Google Trends

Another great way to find profitable niches is to use Google Trends. This tool lets you see how popular a certain keyword or topic is, and it can be really helpful in identifying potential micro niches.

Trending is great, but you don’t want to start a niche blog after a trend, just to see it die down a few months later. You want to identify topics that are consistently popular over time, not just for a moment. So, be sure to check the historical trends for a keyword before you commit to anything.

For example, let’s say you want to start a blog about health and fitness. You could use Google Trends to see how popular this keyword is, and then further refine your niche based on the results.

As you can see, the keyword “health and fitness” is consistently popular over time, with a slight uptick in searches during the summer months. This is likely due to people wanting to get in shape for the beach season.

Now, let’s say you want to start a blog about the goblincore trend. Oh, in case you don’t know what goblincore is, according to Wikipedia, it’s an aesthetic and subculture inspired by the folklore of goblins, centered on the celebration of natural ecosystems usually considered less beautiful by conventional norms, such as soil, animals, and second-hand objects.

Sounds great, right? BUT, as you can see from the Google Trends graph, this keyword is only popular for a moment and it’s likely to die down soon. So, starting a blog about goblincore probably wouldn’t be the best idea.

Use Social Media

Finally, another great way to find profitable niches is to use social media. Platforms like Twitter and Reddit are great for finding out what people are talking about and what’s trending. You can also use social media to find niche communities that you can join and participate in. For example, if you’re a photographer, you could join a Facebook group for photographers or follow hashtags related to photography on Instagram.

This is a great way to not only find potential niches, but also to get involved in the community and start building relationships with other people in your niche.

What Kind of Blogs Earn the Most Money?

In general, there are three main types of blogs that tend to be the most profitable:

  • Niche blogs
  • Authority blogs
  • Affiliate blogs

Niche blogs are focused on a specific topic, such as fashion, beauty, or health and fitness. These types of blogs tend to be very successful because they attract a loyal following of readers who are interested in that particular topic.

Authority blogs are run by an expert in the field who is respected and well-known within the industry. These blogs usually have a lot of traffic and earn a lot of money from advertising. Think: WebMD for health information or Consumer Reports for product reviews.

Affiliate blogs are blogs that promote products or services and earn a commission for every sale they generate. These can be physical products, digital products, or even services like web hosting or online courses. These blogs typically have high traffic levels and earn a lot of money through affiliate commissions.

Depending on your blogging experience, your interests, and your skillset, one of these three types of blogs may be a better fit for you.

If you’re just starting out, I recommend going with a niche blog. Once you’ve built up a following and established yourself as an authority in your field, then you can start thinking about transitioning to an authority or affiliate blog.

But ultimately, the best type of blog is the one that you’re passionate about and that you’ll enjoy working on. Because if you don’t enjoy it, you probably won’t stick with it for very long, and blogging for a profit is actually a timing game – the longer you stick with it, the more likely you are to be successful.

How to Make Money with Your Niche Blog

Profitable Niche Blog 1

Now we’re talking! Making money blogging has been my favorite thing to do ever since I quit my day job in 2020, just one month before WHO declared the COVID-19 pandemic a global health emergency. And it’s not just because I get to work from home in my PJs (although that’s a huge perk!).

I love blogging because it allows me to be creative, share my knowledge and experiences with others, and make a living doing something that I’m passionate about.

So, if you’re wondering how to make money with your niche blog, here are a few ideas:

Sell digital products

One of the easiest ways to make money with your blog is to sell digital products. This could be anything from eBooks and online courses to printables and templates. If you have expertise in a particular area, you can create a digital product that teaches others how to do what you do.

Advertising

Another way to make money with your blog is through advertising. You can sell ad space on your website or work with a company like Google AdSense to place ads on your blog. When someone clicks on one of the ads, you earn money.

Affiliate marketing

If you have a blog in a popular niche, you can also make money through affiliate marketing. This is when you promote products or services on your blog and earn a commission for every sale that you generate. For example, if you have a blog about travel, you could promote travel products like luggage or travel insurance. When people click on your affiliate links and make a purchase, you earn money.

Sell physical products

Then, if you have a blog in a niche where people are passionate about buying physical products, you can also sell those products on your blog. For example, if you have a fashion blog, you could sell clothes or accessories that you’ve featured on your blog. It’s a nice way to earn money from your blog while also giving your readers the chance to buy products that they love.

Services

Do you have any special skills or talents that you could offer as a service? If so, you can also make money by selling services on your blog. For example, if you’re a web designer, you could sell your services to people who need help designing their websites.

Coaching and consulting

Coaching and consulting have become popular in recent years, and if you have expertise in a particular area, you could sell your services as a coach or consultant. This could be anything from business coaching to relationship coaching.

Some types of coaching may require certification, but others may not. So, make sure you do your research before you start offering your services.

Sponsorships

If you have a popular blog, you can also make money through sponsorships. This is when companies or brands pay you to promote their products or services on your blog. For example, if you have a food blog, a company may pay you to write a post about their new product. They get exposed to your readers, while you get paid for your work. It’s a win-win!

These are just a few of the ways that you can make money with your blog, and you can apply as many or as few of them as you want. The important things are to find a way to monetize your blog that feels natural and aligned with your goals, and to have multiple income streams so that you’re not putting all your eggs in one basket.

Final Note

Making money online with profitable blog niches is not only possible, but it’s also fun! So, if you’re passionate about something and want to turn your hobby into a business, don’t be afraid to give it a try. You never know what might happen.
